The Art of Breaststroke
December 13th 2008 Masters - Rugeley Leisure Centre, Staffordshire
“ Just a quick note to say thank you for an interesting and informative day on Saturday. I am looking forward to making some changes to the style of my stroke and gaining the benefits of it being more streamlined. At 55 it's definitely a case of teaching an old dog new tricks!!!” Once again thanks.

“ Well what can I say what a nice guy. You can take it from that I enjoyed the day. I found every part of the course was good. Also I could not get over how many times Nick jumped in the pool to show us one thing or another, he was truly on everybody's case. I am interested in other strokes if there’s any other courses not too far away”.

“ I really enjoyed the day and learnt a lot - I need to put this into practice - I found the location very convenient and would have no hesitation in attending any other courses on any aspects of swimming, as I am always keen to improve. I found the sessions very informal and friendly and it
is always useful to have someone pointing out weaknesses in your technique”.

“ I would just like to say how much I enjoyed the course, as I never had the privilege of experiencing club level training and competing... I have been at Birmingham Masters for 2 Years now but there was never much coaching just swimming programs. However I found Nick's course Fantastic, it is obvious Nick is a Peoples Person and I was able to understand what he was explaining as he broke down the technique, as my technical knowledge is limited at swimming it was easy to follow. I think it is great that Nick wants to put back into the sport what he experienced, I will let you know in the near future when I have hopefully reduced my PB”.
PS:- Thank Nick for bringing in his medals it was the first time in my life I have ever held one.

“ I really enjoyed the day at Rugeley and felt that I had learnt a lot. I thought everything about the course including the venue was A1 and therefore cannot think how it could be improved. I would consider attending future courses on other strokes including starts and turns”.

“ Thank you very much for running the course last week. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I really appreciated that the course was for masters as many coaches seem reluctant to devote much time to masters swimmers. I would certainly consider attending courses on other strokes and starts and turns and would also recommend them to other people in my club, I thought the venue was good”.

“ Johnathan attended the afternoon session on Sunday and came back extremely motivated and full of desire to work harder and improve his swimming. He would love to attend other clinics whenever possible and I would really appreciate relevant emails regarding future clinics etc”.

“ We thought the pool based session was excellent…. All 3 reported that their breaststroke felt much faster after attending the session. Hannah’s confidence in particular was given a real boost when Nick said she had excellent technique with her ‘snapping feet’! We have a breaststroke time trial on 13th so we’ll see if we manage any PBs! Personally, I tried out some of the tips when I went swimming & I could feel the difference”.

“ Just a quick email to thank you for Sunday's clinic. My son and daughter came back with lots of advice that they have been putting into practice in their training. A particular thanks from our coach who accompanied Addison and Aeron - she was very impressed, wrote lots of notes and learned a great deal”.

“ I just wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday it was superb the way Nick and Adam delivered the pool session was fantastic, I know Jessica come away taking a lot from it and I know there was a lot to take in. We did not get chance to personally thank them as they were busy talking and yourself so I do apologise. She is not far off a midland time in the 200 IM and I know from the coaching on the turn she now knows she could take off the vital time she needs. The presentation, well even I came out inspired and took a lot from it, our club introduced log books last year as part of Swim 21 and when we looked back at the goals Jessica set it shows what an important tool they are. Many thanks again for everything”.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------“I would like to take the time to say thank you for a great day on Sunday, Nick said he would be happy if we only took back one percent, Safe to say she got more than one percent and was even happier after her Monday nights training, Breaststroke... It was good to see Nick happy to let everyone be a part of his success and share his knowledge and his medals with all. It’s not often a ten year old girl has the opportunity to wear an Olympic gold medal!” Many Thanks.

“ I just wanted to say how brilliant myself and my daughter thought the course was and she would certainly be interested in attending further courses. My daughter, Tully, is 11 and swims as both an able bodied swimmer at County Level and also as a disabled (S17 Dyspraxic) swimmer. She was the girl who had to leave early and who you kindly gave autographs to first (thank you). The reason she had to leave early was that her Club Championships were taking place that afternoon. I don't know how/what you did but she certainly took it all in and knocked 3 whole seconds off her 50metres breastroke time in one go!!! (which I think is a lot on a 50m swim). So thanks a lot, keep on swimming and merry Christmas!

“ My son Matthew Kelly really enjoyed the session with Nick and Adam and has taken onboard the information given to him and started to include them in his training sessions. I am hoping that Matthew will continue to put in what Nick and Adam taught the children, that’s why I would like to see follow-up sessions. One thing I can say for Matthew is he is self motivated, determined, has a hunger for success and above all enjoys swimming. His breaststroke has really taken off in the past 6 months and we always thought previously his main stroke was freestyle. Although, Matthew has decent times in all his strokes, technique is vital to him reaching a potential we know he has a desire to reach that’s why we would like to see more training sessions and clinics in all strokes, maybe if they could be introduced. I feel that it would be beneficial for the sessions to be repeated or follow-up sessions introduced so that swimmers can continue to improve in stroke techniques and discipline”.

“ Thought Sunday was very informative with my daughter already putting into practise the tips that she picked up (states that” she already feels like she is swimming downhill”). Venue was great, please let us know if you are thinking of putting on clinics for different strokes, particularly at this venue”.
Thanks again for a great afternoon.

“ Siobhan & myself really enjoyed the workshop on Sunday & we both benefitted greatly from attending....we thought the opportunity to look at & hold the medals was unique & particularly inspirational. We also enjoyed the video of your European gold....I also thought that Nick getting in the water & giving demonstrations was really useful. Thanks again & best wishes”.

“ Thomas has been most insistent that I let you know he won the final of the 11years and under 50 metres breaststroke with a new pb of 38.88. I could tell he was pleased by the way he dangled on the ropes and punched the air, I wonder where he got that from? Your breaststroke clinic was a complete success from start to finish. I thought that you did a super job explaining the technique in great detail in a way that all the children could grasp. The informal atmosphere allowed the children to enjoy the day whilst honing their skills....I would have no qualms about recommending your course to any of Toms swimming pals. Thanks”.
