Kosuke Kitajima finished in 2 minutes, 07.51 seconds at the Japan
Open 2008, taking almost a full second off the previous mark set
by American Brendan Hansen in 2006. He is televised here showing
‘performance perfection’ whilst on his way to setting
a World Record for the Men’s 200 Metres Breaststroke. There
are many technical reasons why such a strong world record was
set. As a former world record holder myself for the same event,
I found watching and analysing quite fascinating. Racing with
seemingly such ease, with so few strokes from start to finish
was highlighted through balanced swimming and smooth strokes with
perfect streamlining off the dive, on every turn and within every
stroke. The performance should motivate us all to strive for perfection.
